ABOUT THE ARTIST
Biography
Bergen Rose is a Pacific Northwest painter whose work reflects the subtle atmospheres, shifting light and contemplative spaces found in the natural world. Working primarily in oil and mixed media, she builds layered surfaces that evoke shorelines, open skies, mist and the quiet spaces between land and water. Her paintings sit at the threshold between abstraction and landscape, offering impressions rather than literal depictions.
Rose’s work is recognized for its calm, introspective mood and its refined use of tone and gesture. She has exhibited throughout the region, and her paintings can be found in private collections across the country. Her practice is rooted in observing the rhythms of the coastal environment and translating those observations into distilled, meditative compositions.
STATEMENT
My work is inspired by the quiet transitions in nature. I look to the spaces where light shifts across water, where the horizon softens into mist, where atmosphere becomes a kind of memory. These fleeting impressions form the foundation of my paintings. I am less concerned with depicting a specific place and more interested in capturing the emotional presence of landscape.
Through layered mark making and subtle tonal shifts, I build surfaces that evolve slowly over time. Each layer reflects a moment of looking, thinking or feeling. My aim is to create paintings that offer viewers a sense of stillness and spaciousness, inviting them into a shared moment of reflection. The landscapes I paint are not meant to be destinations, but thresholds.
