ABOUT THE ARTIST
Biography
C. A. Pierce is a Pacific Northwest painter whose work centers on atmosphere, gesture and the emotional resonance of landscape. Working in mixed media, she creates layered compositions that suggest shifting horizons, weather patterns and dreamlike terrain. Her practice is rooted in observation, yet the final images often move toward abstraction, focusing on mood and the subtle interplay between light, color and form.
Pierce has exhibited throughout the region in galleries and arts organizations, and her work is included in private collections across the country. With a background that blends fine art and creative design disciplines, she brings a refined sensitivity to mark making and surface. She maintains an active studio practice and continues to explore the fluid boundary between memory, landscape and imagination.
STATEMENT
My work is an exploration of landscape as a place of memory and emotion rather than a precise geographic record. I am drawn to the transitions in nature: the shift of light across a field, the suggestion of a horizon through weather, the quiet space between one moment and the next. These fleeting impressions form the foundation of my paintings.
I build surface through layers of mixed media, allowing marks to accumulate, dissolve and reemerge. This process mirrors the experience of recalling a place, where details soften and what remains is the essential feeling. My intention is not to define a specific location, but to create an atmosphere that invites contemplation, offering viewers a space to bring their own stories and associations
