Biography

Sandi Bransford is a Pacific Northwest ceramic artist known for her expressive, character-driven sculptural work. Working primarily in handbuilt clay, she creates whimsical, emotionally resonant figures that blend imagination, humor and a deep sensitivity to gesture and form. Her sculptures often capture fleeting moments, subtle expressions and the internal worlds of her characters, giving each piece a narrative presence.

Bransford has exhibited throughout the region and developed a dedicated following for her distinctive, storytelling approach to ceramics. Each sculpture is built by hand, allowing her to focus on posture, personality and fine detail. Her work reflects a lifelong fascination with the human figure and the expressive possibilities that emerge when form, imagination and emotion intersect.

Artist Statement

The human figure has always been at the center of my creative curiosity. I am drawn to expressions, gestures and the quiet emotions that live beneath the surface of everyday life. Working in clay allows me to explore these ideas in a tactile and intuitive way. Each piece begins with a sense of character, and through the process of building, carving and refining, that character gradually comes to life.

I see my sculptures as small narratives, each one capturing a moment of thought, humor or vulnerability. The clay records every touch, which becomes part of the final story. My goal is to create figures that feel alive, familiar and emotionally true, inviting viewers to pause and connect with the personality within each piece.
